I could spend a lifetime watching all these silent movies at your house But I can't pretend like I haven’t spent all day staring through the folds in your blouse I'm in open water struggling to swim near the Halmahera Sea And just as I'm pulled down by my weight you lend me sweet reprieve One evening in this room we lace our hands and I listen to you breathe We hum over the gloom, i feel so still when you wrap yourself ‘round me In the early morning we feel the rising sun pour onto our bed revealing specters of some past life hanging over our heads Should you reach your hand out to some spirit with light on his face facing east Despite our shifting lives I hope that every day you grasp for me.

Lunar Wake 03:18
I try to climb right out of your bed before you wake for the day. But your eyes open and you call me back into your arms and you beg me to stay Your loneliness belongs to me; I can see it on your face. You said that Mercury is just in retrograde but you feel okay. Your warmth binds to my bones as the storm paints watercolors in the sky. And my voice is hoarse but you still want me to sing you a song as you illuminate my eyes. My loneliness still weighs on me, carving salt flats in my face. And a voice deep in mind wonders when our palettes will turn gray. Run my hands across your grooves; Feel your heart keep time pressed against me. I’m entranced by the way you move, as lunar wake engraved in breakers from the sea.

The pallid revenant clambered up my street in a heated fever dream, sweating through my sheets. “I am the silence seeping through your mind; I am the blindness creeping down your spine.” Now I’ve lost my voice still I try to call for you. I’m doused in doubt and bathed in blue. But you slowly breathe the air back in my lungs, sate my thirst, and purify my blood. You run your fingertips all along my back and fuse the fissures that leak fluid through the cracks. Though transcendence never seems to last too long, I still yearn to see you silhouetted by the rising sun.

We french-press sunday mornings and watch the skyline fills with masts. You rebuke the winds that knock into me — two ships slowing as they pass. You tell me I’m your savior but I’m an amalgam of decay. You say these can still go together like snowfall in the middle of May. You’re a revelation for some tired soul like me, brought forth by divination and you were forged by Byzantines. Now we pine for distant islands and pray to a life no longer there. We preach from behind a splintered pulpit to a huddled congregation of air. You were the consummation of life torn at the seams. And we sink in self-corrosion like the fall of Byzantine. All alone inside the wind, finding solace in our dreams. Building beacons for salvation but we’re enveloped by the Halmahera Sea.

about

I wanted to make a record that felt immediate and personal, as if it was recorded in a confessional booth, and that sounded like a purifying Sunday morning after a long, sleepless night of rumination.
